Donaldsonville High School is likely to make the LHSAA Basketball playoffs again, hoping to secure a championship. However, one memorable night remained to be unsettled----Senior Night. Many fans gathered at Donaldsonville’s High School gym, “The Jungle,” to support the team on senior night as they faced the Walker High Wildcats, showering the gym with balloons, team spirit, and anticipation of a great outcome.
Before the game started, 4 senior basketball players were honored for Donaldsonville: #13 Gabe Hill, #11 Donald Brown, #2 Jaden Allen, and #5 Quinnton Dabney. Brown, Allen, and Dabney have been playing together since they were little kids. They were greeted by a special courtside presentation, taking in the moment before they hear their final starting lineup call at home in the regular season. The seniors also hope they can add to the legacy of previous teams that have had great playoff runs, but want to win the championship.
Senior night can be a night full of emotions, but the support for the athletes never wavers. Donaldsonville High School Athletic Director Darnell Lee was in attendance, watching his senior athletes on their special day. Head Coach Lionel Gilbert watched his team dominate the majority of the game against Walker from the start, forcing him to watch from the sideline with a feeling of pride between timeouts.
The Louisiana High School Athletic Association has Donaldsonville listed as a 3A school in basketball and Walker as a 5A school. However, it didn’t matter, as Donaldsonville ran home with a humongous win on Senior Night, 79-61, giving the seniors a special win as their high school careers came to an end.
Assistant Coach, Latrent White, a leader in the Donaldsonville Community, always tells the seniors one thing before senior night.
“Take it all in and enjoy the moment.”
Donaldsonville will be taking on Patterson High School for the district championship.
